Rose Wilder Lane was born December 1886 in a shanty on the South Dakota prairie. She grew up an only child
and often preferred to be by herself than play with local school children. Her two best friends were Blanche Coday-Anderson and Paul Cooley.
In 1909, Rose married
Claire Gillette Lane but later divorced, preferring the "bachelor girl" life. Rose had one child who died shortly after birth. The rest of her life was spent being free
and working for the Red Cross and various newspapers and magazines.On the eve of her trip to Viet Nam, Rose died, leaving Roger Lea MacBride to be her sole heir.
